BLOUNTVILLE — A Bristol man accused of repeated rapes of a juvenile relative over a span of seven years announced his decision to represent himself on Thursday.

Everett “Spencer” Barnett, aka Everette Barnette, 40, formerly of 3064 Highway 11-E, Lot 56, Bristol, faces three counts each of rape of a child, statutory rape by an authority figure and aggravated statutory rape, and one count each of especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, sexual exploitation of a minor and solicitation of a minor. A Sullivan County grand jury handed down sealed indictments on the charges on June 8.

The charges allege Barnett raped a female relative several times between 2002 and 2009. Dates listed in the indictments indicate the earliest incidents allegedly happened when the victim was between 11 and 13, and the rest allegedly took place when she was between 16 and 17 years old.
